German Der Spiegel wrote that German officials will continue to negotiate with Turkey for two more weeks for the settlement of the İncirlik crisis. Withdrawal from İncirlik base will be put to a vote in the German parliament if Turkish goverment continues to deny German parliamentarians visit to İncirlik.

Der Spiegel stated that German Foreign Minister Sigmar Gabriel would lead the negotiations with Turkey durinig this process. Defense Ministry, Foreign Affairs Ministry and the Prime Minister’s Office are reportedly pessimistic about negotiations with Turkey.

Green Party parliamentarian Agnieszka Brugger spoke to Der Spiegel and said that the German government has "made itself a laughing stock in the face of Turkey’s provocations.”

German Prime Minister Angela Merkel met with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and discussed the issue during the NATO summit earlier this week. However, nothing came out of the meeting in Brussels.

Tensions have been rising between Turkey and Germany recently. While many German cities had banned AKP rallies during the April 16 referendum campaign, the Turkish government banned German parliamentarians from visiting İncirlik base without putting forward an official reason.

After the ban on visits to İncirlik base, discussions began on the withdrawal of German troops from the base. As part of the international struggle against ISIS, 260 German soldiers, and Tornado reconnaissance and feeder line aircraft are stationed at İncirlik Air Base of Turkey. The German government had talks with Jordan as part of its search for an alternative base after the crisis.

German Defense Minister Ursula von der Leyen met with King Abdullah during her recent visit to Jordan and said that Abdullah was "ready to give support if the relocation of the German Tornado reconnaissance and feeder line aircraft from İncirlik to Jordan becomes necessary.”
